Senior Technician (Automotive Electrical / Mechanical)

MAIN PURPOSE
To manage, organise and develop a successful service support division for the WEG range of rotating machinery including all types of motors and WEN machines.
 
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Manages and prioritises resources across the area of responsibility to meet functional business objectives. Directs and monitors all activities in the department/function to ensure that agreed KPI targets are met.
  • Manage the In-house after sales activities, including technical support, report writing, warranty, and goods returned for credit.
  • Coordinate Motor warranty claims between customers and Company
  • Coordinate quality checks and inspections on products returned for credit as well as products ready for despatch.
  • Ensures adherence to company policies and procedures and follows up on compliance within own area of responsibility.
  • Manage the workshop area and warehouse.
  • Provide technical back-up and advice for all motor products and solutions to sales operations within the branch.
  • Provides staff with specialist advice, knowledge sharing and coaching to enable staff to meet set expectations, and follows up on a regular basis to ensure technical delivery.
  • Provide field service & 24-hour support.
  • Ensuring that customers are timeously and correctly invoiced where applicable.
  • Creating and keeping up to date a set of master technical files for each product.
  • Ensuring that there is a sufficient stock level of required spares and standard stock items.
  • Receiving, analyzing and repair of faulty Drives and Soft Starters.
  • Reporting to the client in writing and keeping proper record of repairs and returns.
  • Preparing, submitting and keeping record of all the waranty claims.
  • Telephonic Support for Customers and Sales Staff.
  • On-site support for Customers.
  • Site meetings.
  • Problem evaluation on specific applications where equipment is used.
  • Attend to Breakdowns or Commissioning on site as and when required.
  • Counter Sales & Quotations.
  • The area of responsibility includes the Technical Support for Rotating Machines, Drives & Automation which will include Stock: Holding, Transfers and Control, Repairs, Warranties and Commissioning.
  • Processing IBT requests, transferring stock to fulfill orders, ensuring correct stock is picked according to works instructions
  • Product quality; such as correct paint specifications and other specification as stipulated in contracts or purchase orders.
  • Counter Sales of Products & Spares.
  
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE
  • Matric with a recognised Trade (Electrical or Mechanical qualification).
  • At least 5 years technical service experience in the electrical motor industry.
  • Computer literacy - Microsoft packages, Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Office.

  • Read, write, speak and understand the English language.
  • Strong communication skills including oral and written to both internal and external customers.
  • Strong technical and commercial aptitude.
