Position overview / summary: Ensuring that all vehicles (35 truck tractors) are running safely and in accordance with Freight`s Blue Print Framework.
Ensuring budgeted revenue targets are achieved through compliance with daily operating standards, fleet and driver availability, training programs and technical standards.
Relationships maintained with planners, controllers, drivers and finance department.
Job description (role responsibilities and key activities): Managing the Vehicle Incident Database:
  • Ensure all the breakdowns that occurred are recorded properly.
  • Report any accidents and investigate each insurance claim.
  • Ensure all vehicle COF`s and licenses are up to date.
  • Ensure that vehicles are made available and booked for various service intervals.
  • Ensure that all vehicle files are up to date to prove that the fleet is in compliance with all transport regulations.
Managing Drivers
  • Manage and record driver’s hours and report any issues to the Depot Manager.
  • Manage the timekeeping of spare driver compliment.
  • Ensure that spare drivers sign the driver attendance register.
  • Ensure that driver training is up to date.
  • Ensure that driver medicals and PDPs are up to date.
  • Responsible for driver`s discipline issues and corrective action.
  • Ensure that drivers fill up diesel at the selected sites only.
Ensure that each vehicle`s tracking device is fully functional at all times and report any tracking units not working.
Manage vehicle and equipment checks
Ensure that vehicles are washed regularly.
Ensure all tracking of vehicles are done every hour and report any discrepancies, deviations and delays to Depot Manager and Central Planning. Tracking needs to be done properly and captured on the planning schedule accurately.
Ensure tracking is done and expected ETAs are given to Customers
Perform spot checks on Mix Telematics (camera system) to ensure drivers adhere to Company rules, policies and regulations set out in the SOP when on-route and away from the Depots.
Ensure that revenue plans are captured daily and ensure that the CPKs are calculated accurately.
Ensure Turnover accruals do not exceed 15 days
Monitor fuel/oil consumptions and investigate vehicles with excessive consumptions.

Required experience, qualifications and skills: Qualifications:
Transport and/or Management Diploma/Degree or studying towards a Diploma/Degree
At least 5years’ experience in a transport management position.  Will manage and control a fleet of 35 vehicles.
